Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students want to make a difference! Many of my students are in this country for the first time or they are the first generation born in the United States. They come from families who want the best for their children.
My students are such hard workers and caring children I am so proud of all they have achieved.
Many do not have much in financial means but are big in heart and they have an amazing work ethic! They also want to help, and contribute to our community and society! Our class focus this year is how we can help our environment, our community and make the world a better place.
My Project
Bats in the barn! You might think that sounds scary! It actually is not at all! Our Special needs students attend therapeutic horse back riding at out local equestrian center when discussing what community organization we should try and work with this was the obvious place. Bats eat a ton of mosquito, and no one enjoys being bitten by a mosquito!
Bats will help the horses, students and instructors concentrate on learning instead of swatting away bothersome insects!
My students want to write a story about all the sustainable projects we have been working on this year to share with the other schools so hopefully we can inspire them to follow our lead. Night vision cameras attached to the Premium Bat House will allow the students not only to create non-fiction stories about the lives of our bats and horses, but they also want to create a realistic fiction story about sustainable practices so even our youngest students will be excited about bats and not afraid of them! Putting a visual worm composer in our classroom will inspire them to tell stories about all the good worms do for our gardens and educate the younger grades on this easy practice as well!
Stories are an easy way for our younger students to learn about what we do in middle school, but they are also a way for the older students to explain what they understand about our sustainable projects. It is a win win for the storyteller and the recipients of the stories!
