This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school in a high poverty area. Students do not have the bare minimum materials for class. For many students, art is the reason they come to school. Art supplies are desperately needed in order for students to attain visual art standards in hands on production. Your help will provide my students with supplies and equipment to create their art work. My students are most appreciative to have arts classes and love working in the art studio.
My Project
Your donation will provide my students with muslin cloth as a base for their batik wax design, tjanting pens to apply the hot batik wax in a linear fashion, an electric skillet to heat the wax, batik wax for the resist and to block out the color areas of dye, and bamboo brushes to help achieve thin lines.
I want my students to understand the importance of textiles as an art medium and know the history of textiles and how to create textile cloth, and how to create a design for fashion that will culminate in sewing decorative and wearable art.
Wearing and sharing their own textile creations within the school and community will create pride for what they can do in school and for others should these students choose this a vocation.
