Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in an outlying neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. We are proud of the diversity within our 680 student campus. The majority of our students are English Language Learners and/or economically disabled.
My students show the most excitement for learning when it is our day to utilize the technology we share with other classes in second grade.
They love collaborating with one another to enhance learning and build strong English language skills.
They become frustrated when an obstacle, like non-working headphones, gets in their way of successful learning. This group of students are very eager to learn and succeed in the classroom and in life.
My Project
My students were so excited to learn that we were awarded 24 Amazon Kindles from a Robotics Program in our district. Our students have been utilizing them to work through elementary programs to enhance their reading, math, and coding skills. We also hope to use them for various projects that will encourage upper level thinking skills.
Bats are known for their very impressive hearing, that helps navigate them through obstacles.
With this new technology, we are in need of our very own "bat ears" that will enable us to navigate through our own educational pathways.
These headphones will also encourage and support the collaboration between English Language Learners and Proficient English Speakers. These headphones are enabled with a "share-port" that allows two students to hear and respond to the same content on one device.
