My Students

The students of our high school band program are some of the best students in the school. The majority of students are not only involved in the band but also athletic and academic activities.

A large portion of students that are in the band are on the free and reduced lunch program, meaning that many students use school-owned instruments for which there is no designated repair and maintenance budget.

This means that many students have to play on instruments that aren't in optimal playing conditions.

My Project

A bass clarinet is an important part of any wind ensemble. The specific tone color and flexibility of this instrument provide a sound that no other instrument can replicate. Currently, our high school does not have one of these instruments, and that is preventing me from giving my students an authentic band experience.

The bass clarinet is much more expensive that a typical clarinet, and most students don't own one of their own.

This presents an issue for us as a growing band program. Students cannot afford to buy a bass clarinet of their own, but we still need that sound in the band.

In addition to the instrument itself, I am also requesting a professional level mouthpiece and ligature to give the students that play this instrument the best chance possible for success.
