Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day for a member of the girls basketball team includes hurrying across the street to the YMCA after school in order to make the 4pm practice. Maintaining passing grades for each class and good behavior allows the girls the privilege of enjoying the game as they grow on and off the court.
The IHSCA girls basketball team is comprised of 15 girls that meet at the YMCA.
The team is made up of girls ranging from 9th through 12th grade and consists of dedicated student athletes hailing from different areas within the south side of Chicago.
My Project
Having more basketballs for the girls will increase the productivity of our practice time. Some of the daily drills and activities that would be ideal for practice are impossible without more basketballs. With more basketballs, the team can be split into groups where the student-athletes can individually practice a sufficient amount and utilize their time for growth more efficiently.
Not only would basketball practice be much more productive for the team, but having these balls could play a part in increasing the number of girls' teams that we have in the future.
More girls playing basketball correlates with increases in both discipline and work ethic within a larger group. Giving these students something to look forward to after school that improves them as people on and off the court can only make accomplishing dreams a reality.
