My students come from a diverse economic and cultural background. Our class includes students with special needs, students identified as gifted and talented, and English language learners.
Although my students are diverse, they all share a curiosity about the world around them and a desire to learn.
They want to have discussions and opinions on the things they hear their parents and teachers talking about. They want to engage in meaningful ways with the people and ideas that interest them.
Our school is in a diverse neighborhood in Houston, Texas. We are a magnet school that specializes in the musical arts. Most of our students play instruments.
My Project
We are starting a basketball club in order to help students from our school form healthy habits by encouraging them to participate in sports. We are asking for some athletic supplies to help us get started.
Our club will meet once a week and discuss, study the history of, and play basketball.
Basketball is a great sport in part because you do not need much equipment to play. We have the goal set up, but need a few balls and practice jerseys to really get organized and make the most of our time.
