My art students are so creative. They always amaze me with the things they create. I teach many different subjects within the area of art and this DonorsChoose request will directly impact students in all of my classes.
Art is such an important subject for students to be able to explore.
It can help reduce stress and allow students to express their thoughts, values, and emotions without judgment. These materials will help me achieve this goal.
Over 50% of students at my school are economically disadvantaged and it's the most diverse High School in the district. They have such heart and creativity. My goal is to bring them quality materials that will last for years to come and allow them to continue to further explore their creativity.
I will be teaching a new class for basic skills students at my school and I am looking for a variety of fun projects that will give students an opportunity try different arts and crafts. I believe this will also be a great project to add into the Intro to Art class Basic Design.
Students will each make their own basket with this project!
Basket making has such an incredible history that can be explored through cultures around the world. It has such importance to our history as humans- back when there were no cabinets, bowls and plates early humans created baskets to hold food, water and their belongings. It is also said that a happy accident with a clay covered basket getting burnt in a fire lead to the discovery of using clay for vessels!
I remember basket weaving in my High School art class, it was one of those unique experiences that is hard to forget and I would like to share the same experience with my students!
