Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from low-socio-economic neighborhoods and are "labeled" by schools as English language learners, special education, and/or at-risk. As the reading specialist, I work with small groups; however, our school was in great need of a library, so I now service all 420 students by providing a completely donated library/media center, as well! All of the books in our school library have been donated by the impoverished community surrounding our school. All of our technology within the library/media center is second-hand technology.
Our students are bright, eager learners, when given the appropriate tools to succeed!
They need and deserve so much, and the staff who surround them work tirelessly to provide them a quality education with the little resources available to them.
My Project
My underprivileged students are in need of an ABC's carpet to practice identifying letter names and sounds, white board markers and a white board easel to demonstrate word and sentence building skills, washable markers and construction paper to create projects, and a bulletin board to display their hard work!
Donations to this project will provide my students with basic necessary classroom items such as seating and project supplies.
We are hoping to enhance identification of letter sounds and names with the ABC carpet. We want to incorporate more projects, which is why we need the construction paper and markers. We also want to show pride in our work by displaying it for the whole school to see, which is why we need the bulletin board!
