This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are inner city, low income children. They all qualify for Title I and free lunch. They come to me with very little exposure to literature and learning. Many have had no preschool experience. About 3/4 of my students enter school significantly behind their peers from more affluent areas.
My students make the effort to come to school every day, regardless of their circumstances.
They work cooperatively, problem solve, and do their best every day to learn as much as they can.
My Project
It's hard to believe that the school year is almost over! We're stocked on paper, but we're running out of pencils and other basics really fast!
Most of my students come to school without the most basic of supplies.
This means giving them pencils nearly every day, half of which don't make it back to my pencil can. We go through pencils pretty quickly, and we need more to finish up the year strong!
We want to keep writing and drawing for class, but we need the basic supplies like markers, whiteboards, and pencils to finish out our year strong.
