Basic Transition Solutions for Not So Basic Scholars!

Help me give my students basic supplies to help them transition between classrooms, teachers and stations easily.

My Students

For the upcoming school year, I will be transitioning to a new school, a new grade level and a set of new and exciting learners! Transitioning from fifth and sixth grade to transitional kindergarten and kindergarten will be an exciting change. With that change, comes new demands for supports for students in the primary grade level setting. The students I'll be working with, are kids that have Mild/Moderate Disabilities and Functional Skills Learning Abilities.

My desire is to create a classroom environment where these kids feel safe, respected and valued.

The neighborhood and boundaries that my new site will be at are tough. The majority of the students are from low-income households and the school has a one hundred percent reduced price lunch rate and is a Title One school. The school has a large transient population due to families moving around often for work. The neighborhoods aren't safe, filled with drugs, gangs and violence. I want to provide a haven for my students where they can forget about the chaos around them, even for just a little bit.

My Project

My TK/K Special Day Class Students are remarkable. They are learning and achieving milestones, every day. Because of this, I have adjusted many of their schedules to include more time in inclusion, more time focused on specific content areas, specific goals, and more time learning and adjusting to different stations, adults and teachers.

I am requesting supplies to help make transitions between teachers, adults, and stations easier for all students.

The supplies being requested are pencil boxes to keep their supplies in when they move from classroom to classroom or stations to station. The book bins will help keep all of their curriculum and handouts organized so that they do not have to worry about where something belongs. This will streamline transitions, and give teachers more time to teach, and students more time to learn.

Laminating Sheets and Velcro will be used to laminate schedules and Velcro will be attached to allow students to pull from their schedules to their assigned classrooms or stations.
