Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Warren Harding High School students are from the Bridgeport Area. The majority of my students come from families with limited economic resources and they receive free or reduced-priced lunch. Warren Harding High School is considered to be one of the most challenging schools due to the lack of support for students and teachers alike. Unfortunately, we do not have resources to buy materials necessary for Spanish Class. For example, my students want to incorporate technology in the classroom, but the School District is unable to provide any digital learning aids for the students.
My Project
My school cannot assist and help to all our students that live in poverty and come to school without having enough sleep and without having breakfast. They often experience family violence, neglect, no shoes or clothes and they do not how to cope and detach from these experiences to engage in school. Also, due to the lack of resources students do not feel engaged in the learning experience. We were fortunate enough to have DonorsChoose.org and DALIO Foundation help us obtain 28 tablets that helped so much to create a new learning and engaging environment combating disengagement in my classroom. However, we are in need of Amazon protective cases and 1 Pearington tablet cart to make these tablets last for a long time.
Our classroom is set up with only one working outlet.
Therefore, we need this station that can charge at once and students can enjoy the benefits of mobile technology. Also, we need an Ipevo document camera because we do not have a projector or smart board in the classroom. These resources will encourage students that have been missing 3 or more days of school due to suspension or chronic absents to attend school more often. They will be more motivated to finish lessons on mobile devices than through traditional textbooks and workbooks. Students will have a greater access to learning resources to be successful academically.
