Basic Supplies to Step Up to Third Grade Math Successfully
My students need basic classroom supplies such as folders, dry erase markers, dry erase pocket sleeves, clip boards, paper, and Kleenex to help ensure they are set up for success in third grade math and science!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The third-graders in my class are inquisitive, energetic, and hardworking mathematicians. As a first-year teacher, it's my goal to create an engaging, positive, and organized classroom environment that helps students to thrive.
I teach math and science at a Title I school on the South Side of Chicago, where over 99% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch, therefore resources are often limited.
Our school is considered a safe space for my third graders, and our classroom environment plays a pivotal role in my students’ academic success. When students lack basic needs, there can be negative effects on their academic and social-emotional advances. When students enter our class, they are able to step away from the worries they face in their home life such as homelessness and the effects of poverty.
My scholars persevere through difficult circumstances daily, and I want to provide them every opportunity possible to advance their learning through STEM! I am so lucky to be teaching this amazing group of scholars! By donating to this project, you are providing my students with the essential classroom supplies they need to succeed.
My Project
My students will use these supplies to work daily towards becoming mathematicians, scientists, and engineers!
Providing basic school supplies to my students will truly make a difference in our classroom and help set my scholars up for success in third grade.
The donations received will be used to provide my students with the supplies they use on a daily basis. While basic school supplies may seem small, they add up quickly, and with two classrooms of 30 students, these supplies will benefit many students!
With these supplies, I will be able to welcome my students into the classroom with dry erase markers, folders, dry erase sleeves, dry erase cloths, individual clip boards, construction paper, incentive stickers and a variety of other materials that allow them to begin the school year excited and ready to learn math and science! The dry erase pocket sleeves, markers and erase clothes will be used on a daily basis to practice math. In our classroom we learn using the “I do, We do, You do” gradual release model. When students solve equations using dry erase markers during our lesson I am able to see where their misconceptions are. I will also be able to use the same worksheets for multiple classes! With individual clipboards, students can practice their math and move anywhere in the classroom with their work! The bulletin board calendar will be used to write daily homework and quizzes for organizational purposes. We need kleenex for runny noses during the cold Chicago winters!
By donating to this project, you are providing my students with powerful learning tools that will truly impact their understanding of STEM concepts. All of the supplies will be made available to the scholars in my classroom so that everyone can engage in the learning starting on the first day!
