Ms. Gibbs from Detroit MI is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need supplies and materials to start the year strong! Basic supplies like paper, pencils, and dry erase markers can make all the difference in a student's success in school!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our school serves students from pre-K though 12th grade. The students we teach are facing some of the greatest challenges in the country; 99% of our students receive free/reduced price lunch. Many of them struggle with the effects of inconsistent housing.
Despite obstacles, our students are champions.
They have lofty goals and pursue excellence daily. Many of our students dream of being doctors, veterinarians, teachers, and entrepreneurs. College graduation is the focus for our students, but they need strong support systems to help them close the achievement gap.
Not every family has the luxury to be able to provide the basic school supplies their kids need, which can be detrimental to student success. Many of our students are between one and three grade levels behind when they start the school year. Throughout our network of schools, we are working diligently to close the achievement gap so every student has access to the life he or she chooses.
By providing pencils, paper, scissors, markers, and other essential classroom supplies, you are helping kids who need you the most!
Additionally, mini white boards, dry erase markers, and pencil boxes will support learning in the classroom every day. Remember how excited you were to open a brand new pack of crayons? I want my students to have the feeling this year, too!
