The governor of Texas announced the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We were unfamiliar with any type of remote learning. We brainstormed the most effective way for students to learn at home. Currently, students are working on online assignments through two different platforms.
At my school, children learn through hands-on exploration and cross-curricular instruction, supported by a STEAM-focused curriculum.
It is my goal to continue that mission even through distance learning. We were able to provide our learners with various forms of technology so that all students are able to access our education platforms.
Our elementary school is a large, urban public school with almost five hundred students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over seventy percent of our students receiving free lunch. The ethnic breakdown of the school is 39% White, 37% Hispanic, 14% Black, and 8% Asian.
My Project
Students are stuck at home for the last 2 months. They are handling this stressful time the best they can, but in the end they miss school and their friends. I am requesting some fun activities for students to do at home to alleviate the boredom of being at home.
I am requesting play doh, card games, and dry erase boards to keep their minds active.
These items will be delivered to students in the requested bags during packet pickup or taken to their house.
I hope that this little gift will help students know that teachers and the community are supporting them in this time of crisis.
