Help me give my students basic supplies to make their education as fruitful as possible. Having having simple tools such as markers, pencils, zip ties, and twine, will enhance their education remarkably.
My students are young scientists participating in a class that allows them to study their surroundings. As a new teacher, my AP environmental science and biology classes are ones that I am working to pack with as much project-based learning as possible. I believe that students who are able to engage these concepts hands-on will become more well rounded in their understandings of the whole discipline. My students are all a part of the school's Environmental Science Academy, which is a program that focuses on science in their surroundings. The AP Environmental Science class is the senior's capstone project. Part of the draw of this program is the number of opportunities it offers to engineer and design solutions for the future. They are enthusiastic builders, learners, and scientists.
My Project
Materials that I am requesting for my project will help my students not only engage in everyday work in the classroom but also projects such as our urban environmental engineering topic. I am introducing the concept of carbon sequestration to my 9th grade biologists and they will be challenged to create a green solution via urban gardening design and engineering. The twine, zip ties, and fertilized soil will be tools for them to build their solution They will be presenting their solutions to experts in the fields and evaluated for their practicality and application.
Otherwise, these simple supplies such as pencils, markers, and a broom, will also allow my classroom to be a more functional space for the kids to learn and grow.
The pocketed folders, file folders, filing boxes will be for them to stay organized with the work they complete in my class. The power strips and extension cords will be for the times I use my stereoscopes for stations around the classroom. The broom is for general tidiness to reinforce a comfortable learning environment for my kids!
