My Students

We are an urban school with low socioeconomic status, but that doesn't stop us from giving every minute we have to improving our grades, our goals, and our human capital. Our school is socially and culturally diverse, which makes for a great global learning experience. With your help, we can soar to even greater heights! English is the gateway to understanding the world around us and my special education students need to have the most up-to-date supplies and tools in order to succeed as they work the hardest to overcome challenges every day in order to succeed!

My Project

The basic supplies that I am requesting for my students will help them to fulfill the requirements of their curriculum and Individual Education Plan. The students whom I serve are receiving special education services in one area or another. As such, they are always in possession of very confidential documents including information about their medical diagnosis, treatment, care, learning logs (IEPs), and even private home information including confidential parent information. All these documents are legal documents that they could keep in the properly sealed envelopes I am requesting. I support my students in their English classes and the copy paper will furthermore allow them to print their assignments and work on their writing draft in order to physically manipulate their paper as they improve on their work.

Fair does not mean equal!

We will utilize the basic envelopes and copy paper to provide accommodation and modification for our special education students. Accommodation changes how my students access and learn the same material as their peers; this occurs without lowering the academic expectations whereas modification changes what my students are taught or are expected to learn. This process requires a lot of paperwork and the copy paper will be invaluable to achieve this. My students will also be able to use the copy paper to print out their English assignments to submit. This will also allow them to have hard copies to manipulate as they improve their work in the writing process.

My students will utilize the copy paper for their accommodated and modified work. This will allow them to work on a leveled playing field. All in all, this is a tool to help focus on equity and help give all my students a chance to thrive in the classroom as they work tirelessly to overcome their learning challenges.
