Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like when you were in school and your teacher handed you brand new materials like markers and crayons? I know my students appreciate good materials to help them with various projects and cooperative learning groups.
My 6th grade students attend a college-ready charter school in California.
They struggle with many challenging concepts in math and science. They love when their teacher brings out new materials to use for review games. Having enough materials for all students would also help them get their projects completed during class time.
My Project
"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
-- Albert Einstein
Having new resources for our students would encourage them to complete the assignment during school hours instead of taking it home to be finished due to lack of materials for every child in the class. Cooperative review games are much more exciting for students when they are writing on white boards instead of paper. Review games using white boards encourages students to be engaged while helping them review important concepts.
Construction paper, glue sticks, scissors, and tape help students make booklets with information from the textbooks to use as a study tool. Making study books helps students remember information from class and they are not as bored making them versus taking notes.
This project is important to me because I want all of my students to succeed and be engaged in their lessons.
I want students to know that learning is fun and learning does not stop in the classroom. I strive to instill good communication skills to students so they can be successful when they get to high school and college. I believe middle school is a crucial time for our children and we as parents and teachers need to provide the students with the necessary tools they need to be successful.
