This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is located within a community that has many daily challenges and often cannot provide the most basic school supplies and furniture needed to run a classroom. I teach in a low income, special education classroom where hands-on learning is very important for the students in my classroom.
Having very basic classroom supplies will allow my students to not think about what they do not have and experience learning through what they do within the classroom.
These supplies are very basic; however, are not in my classroom and could really revive my special education students hands on learning experiences which they really need.
My Project
I work in a low-income district where our budget has been completely cut. Teachers currently have to buy their own copy paper for the rest of the year. My students cannot afford to bring in school supplies. They come from difficult home lives where they look at school as their safe place. Having simple needs such as white paper, calculators, and construction paper will help my special education students really succeed in my classroom. My special education students learn best when they have hands-on activities. Having these school supplies will allow them to be successful and learn in the best way for them.
