Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

I work at a special education school, serving emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, and other special education classified students. Our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds in New York City. Over 95% of the student body is eligible for free lunch, and more than 90% receive public assistance.

My students have exceptional abilities, and with the proper accommodations and modifications, they truly thrive in our school setting. These kids are afforded smaller classroom ratios, personalized attention, and a myriad of specially certified providers that assist in their overall development.

My students collectively decided it was time to stock their classroom to the fullest, and thought this was the best way to do it. It is always a struggle for my students to afford their own school supplies, and it's a major stress for our classroom. My kids decided to be proactive by creating this proposal. They looked at various online vendors through this website, and found everything they needed through Quill. These students handpicked each item from the catalog, including printer ink, bottled water, and garbage bags. These materials are needed for completing their writing assignments, staying hydrated, and keeping their classroom tidy.

In Their Own Words

Our names are Daniela, Gianna, Billy, Rachel, Edwin, Pharrell, Luis, and Onyea. We are all students in Ms. F's class and are excited to write this proposal together. We have seen Ms. F buy a lot of school supplies, and told her we want to help get more things we need to learn in the classroom. Our goal is to keep new materials flowing so we can stay focused in school. Chances are, we'll need even more in the future. But this is a great start!

We are taking the collective lead on this project by writing the proposal and researching the best school supplies. We found that Quill has great prices, an impeccable customer service record, and quick shipping. This company stocks the supplies we need for the remainder of the school year, and we just have two months to go!

This project will solve the constant dilemma of running out of supplies. Most of us live in foster homes, low-income housing, group homes, and shelters, so it's extremely difficult to buy our own materials. Ms. F often pays out of pocket, but it's hard to keep up with the demand. Here's hoping we get some love and support through DonorsChoose.org. Thanks for reading our proposal and helping us achieve our goals!
