Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I teach are in a special education class for students with Autism. The students have unique needs and struggle daily with significant communication and learning needs. They work every day on their life skills, daily living skills, and communication.
My students also live in a high poverty area, which makes our school even more unique, because they may not always have everything need at home.
My highly diverse learners oftentimes need some sort of tool to be more successful. Despite challenges at home and in the community, my students are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and thoughtful. In my classroom, we work with our students to work hard daily to improve their communication, behavior and academic skills.
My Project
My students are in need of basic supplies to put into an emergency kit to get them through the school day. I will like to create an area in my classroom that has basic supplies for most in-class emergencies.
When our students know they don’t need to worry about basic supplies and have easy access to them, they are less stressed and can focus on the task at hand!
My students need feminine pads so that they don’t need to worry while in school. A timer will be used to keep us on track in the classroom. Batteries are needed to be able to use the timer. Laminating sheets are needed to keep our work and signs safe. We need snacks to keep our bellies full and our minds strong!
