Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very special. Several of them have special needs and some have other behavioral challenges due to experiencing some level of trauma. Over 75 percent of our students live in poverty. Many of our students either currently are or have been homeless at some point, which is truly devastating. We also have a high percentage of students who are brand new to the country and don’t speak a word of English.
My grade level changes almost every year, and because of our population, I tend to purchase a lot of our classroom supplies.
Whatever puts a smile on their faces makes me happy! My goal is to make their six hours of school time as special as it can be. They are always grateful for the love and support they get, which is why I am always looking for ways to improve my instruction! I get a lot of hugs here!
My Project
My third grade class is in need of some basic supplies: copy paper and pencils. It seems silly but supplies are hard to come by these days with budget cuts. Copy paper is needed across the three third grade classes for supplementary activities and lessons that require photo copying. Pencils are obviously used daily and boy do we go through them quickly! Ticonderoga pencils seem to outlast other brands as they sharpen beautifully and don’t break as easily. My students work hard and are grateful for anything we receive from donors. These supplies would really help us get through the rest of the year!
