Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love teaching kindergarten and am passionate about helping my kindergarten English language learners get the best start to their school career. I want to inspire my little friends to love school and love learning as much as I do from the very beginning!
I teach in a low income urban setting.
My little friends receive free breakfast and lunch every day. My students' families are hard working, dedicated, devoted parents and grandparents representing many different countries and languages who want to see their children get the best start to their educational career. My amazing little English Language Learning friends face many challenges before they even walk in the door to school. We work hard as a team to create a safe loving environment in which we can learn together. All of my little friends are always so incredibly excited to come to school every day because learning is always different, fun and thrilling in our classroom!
My Project
We have run out of glue sticks! I had bought a hundred this summer for our class to use but we have blown through them already! Cutting and gluing are great activities for fine motor development which leads to better pencil control. I am asking for sixty big thick glue sticks which should last us for the rest of the year.
I am also asking for file folders with brads. When we teach phonics we use a program called Engage New York. Each skills module contains a classroom reader that we can copy and share with the class. I have been copying them and three hole punching them to place them in a sturdy paper folder, so we can use them year after year. The books tie into the phonics lessons we learn every day and have helped grow and build reading skills for both phonics and fluency.
I realize that this is not the most glamorous project but it is really needed for our classroom.
I sincerely appreciate and am incredibly grateful to any donation to our classroom to receive these supplies. My little friends will build and grow their reading skills and fine motor skills with your donations to these projects. Thank you so very much for using donors choose and for (hopefully) donating to our classroom!
