This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are middle school students of great diversity from a low-income urban area with a large percentage of special needs students. Each year 90% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Because of limited funds, technology is almost non-existent in my classroom. Keeping the children motivated and connected to the world is an everyday challenge.
Very often, my students are unable to provide basic school supplies and the school district does not have a budget that allows the students to have these basic supplies.
I teach students with disabilities that make them struggle to learn. Having these basic needs such as paper, dry erase boards, notebooks will allow my students every opportunity to be able to learn in many different ways and to learn really effectively. Having these basic supplies will allow lessons to come alive for my students.
My Project
My students have special needs and often need reinforcement of lessons. Projects about the lessons enable the students to immerse themselves in the subject matter. Using kinetic learning and art often enables a fuller understanding of the subject matter. These supplies such as bulletin board paper and border are very difficult to come by in my district. Budget cuts have stopped any ordering of supplies. It is my priority to give opportunities to my students and I ask you to help me with your donations.
Basic supplies such as graph paper, notebooks, and dry erase boards are vital for a successful outcome.
