Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 20 of the most vibrant, intelligent, and compassionate young students, who work hard every day to overcome their struggles in school. I watch as they strive to achieve their academic goals, learn to be kind and caring friends, and contribute to the school community. They may be labeled as "disabled", but they are anything but!

Despite their academic, physical, and, at times, emotional struggles, my students work extremely hard to be their very best selves.

They turn their learning and life challenges into a "strength" rather than a "disability". They are true superheroes to me.

My Project

Every classroom requires basic supplies to function and to meet the educational needs of its students. For students in the special education program, these supplies need to, also, meet the students' unique needs - be it academic or social-emotional. Materials, such as the double-sided whiteboards and dry erase markers, will not only allow the students to practice printing, but they will, also, be able to practice other literacy skills and math skills. The interactive classroom calendar will help the students learn about time and add to a print-rich environment. And, the reading trackers will aid with early reading behaviors, as well as with inattentiveness or visual distracting behaviors.

In addition to academic support, students with unique learning needs often require a little extra support with their social-emotional growth, as well.

The reward stickers will be used with the students' incentive charts to keep them motivated during their learning process. And, the magnetic picture pockets will allow the students to be present in their classroom, whether or not they're physically in the room. The picture pockets will, also, allow the students to take ownership of their learning environment. Anyone who walks into their room will be able to see the faces of the brilliant students who are working on becoming a career, college, and life-ready!
