My students come to school every day (with 98.4% attendance) in a diverse, low-income, urban community. The demographics of my school includes Asian, African American, Latino and Caucasian students. One goal, as a school community, is to focus on the whole child. My classroom is dedicated to tolerance and humanitarianism. I focus my lessons on the human experience to instill empathy into my students in hopes to create a better world for their generation and generations after. We utilize a vast range of texts, sources, and technology that is available to further understand our world and the responsibilities of a citizen of the United States. I want my students to continue to ask deeper questions about their world, analyze perspectives of others, and be able to support their ideas with evidence.
My Project
My students need some basic supplies to use in the classroom. Every year I try to have supplies readily available for all my students. I always want them to be successful and not worry if they forgot their pencil or do not have a notebook for class. Based off of previous years, I can already see what supplies we will be in dire need of this upcoming school year. My students go through tape, pencils, folders and White Out all the time. We also do not have proper trash receptacles and have been using an old recycling bin in the meantime. We also always go through Kleenex and tend to run out mid year.
These basic supplies would make a tremendous impact on my students.
The will feel more confident, be better prepared, and will be even more successful than they are now.
