My students are a group of energetic first graders who come to school each day eager to learn. They attend a high poverty, Title I school in rural Georgia and over 85% of my children live in poverty. Our elementary school is a low income, rural school that has children that are homeless.
Regardless of our socioeconomic status, these students are young, ambitious, and smart.
Despite their hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn as much as they can so they can be successful. I teach an amazing group of first graders who come to school each day with smiles on their faces.
My Project
The caregivers of my students are struggling to provide the basic necessities of food, clothing and shelter. School supplies are not a basic necessity and are usually not provided, not because the caregivers do not want to provide, but they are not able financially to provide them.
Students need pencils, crayons, paper, markers, and other such supplies in order to be successful academically, yet many of students are not able to bring these supplies to school each day.
The paper and markers will be used for anchor charts so that the children will have the information they need in front of them. The pencils and crayons will be used each and every day during writing and math. The glitter and magnets will be used to create different crafts throughout the year.
I do not want my students to be embarrassed because they are not able to bring the supplies that some of the others are able to bring to school. I want to have all of the supplies out and ready for all of my students to use from day one of the new semester and relieve the stress of not having supplies.
