Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from southeast Houston, and we are a Title I school. All of my students are on free breakfast and lunch. The school is surrounded by apartments where the majority of my students live.
My students want to learn, and they try very hard even though some of my students have experienced losing their homes and cars due to the recent flood that saturated the Houston area.
We still have several families living with extended families and friends. There has been a lot of mobility of our children moving between family members and trying to get back to what life was like before this major flooding event that hit our area, but our children still maintain a very positive attitude.
My students still need more resources because of all the changes they still are going through.
My Project
My students could really benefit from having a place to put their math and science journals; the three-drawer cart would be perfect. I have wanted my students to do math problems without having to get out the whiteboards or wait for them to get their paper. The circles in the small groups would be perfect for the children to practice their math problems and cut down on time wasted in class. The file folder games would be a great benefit for my slower learners that are below grade level. These games are made at least one to two grade levels below were they should be. All of these things would help my children be more successful in my classroom.
