Basic STEM Supplies to Enhance a Far-Beyond-Basic 4th Grade Class
Help me give my students stackable storage bins, a pencil sharpener, an electric 3-hole punch, class set of clipboards, chalk markers, instant camera and film, markers, a round wooden table, and a Cricut.
The fourth graders in my class are an eclectic, creative group who love to read and learn! I teach the "GATE" (Gifted and Talented Education) group in my grade level, so thinking out of the box is the standard.
The new school year is gearing up, and I am excited by my students' eagerness to learn and constant inquiry.
As I navigate my 20th year of teaching, it's always a good idea to self-evaluate and constantly strive toward best practices. Complacency will never be in my teaching repertoire, and should not be a word in my students' vocabulary!
I'm hoping my students will continue to experience the joy of continuous learning. I will always work as hard as possible to promote a fun, inviting educational environment.
My Project
This project covers many areas of the classroom and instruction, with an emphasis on the "T" in STEM: technology. With the daily use of Chromebooks in our class, the extra components require storage. Therefore, I am requesting stackable storage units to house headphones and mice. Our class needs a high-powered pencil sharpener, as the number one tool every student needs every day is a basic pencil. Our class would love an electric 3-hole punch, to keep our papers neat and organized in our binders. A class set of clipboards will help us with our flexible learning as we sit in various locations around the room. Chalk markers will help me "advertise" upcoming events on my chalkboard easel.
That's not all; there's more!
An instant camera and film will help me capture images of my students at school and on field trips, and allow me to send them home with a keepsake. Mr. Sketch scented markers are wildly popular in my class, and I will continue to use them in math instruction as I check for understanding. A tall round table will allow a group of students to confer during group time and feel free to stand while doing so. Finally, a Cricut bundle will allow me to make bright and engaging bulletin boards and anchor charts to teach my students important concepts in every academic subject.
