They are an amazing group of first graders. Our school is 99% Title 1 and a lot of our kids come from difficult homes. While their homelife isn't always predictable, they come to school each day excited to learn. They have already overcome so many obstacles and my goals is to help bridge the poverty gap and get them to college. The technology we have in our school is limited and outdated and it puts our students at a disadvantage compared to more affluent peers. I want to bring more relevant technology into the classroom to help better prepare them for their futures.
My Project
I've found that students don't necessarily learn best by completing district provided worksheets, so I supplement their learning with more hands on, creative activities that engage that and help them master the subject. The unfortunate part about not using District provided resources is that there's not any materials provided and it can become expensive very quickly.
My students come from high poverty neighborhoods and because of that asking parents to bring in school supplies creates a financial burden that many of them simply cannot afford.
By having materials for every students I won't have to limit their learning due to a lack of supplies.
