Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 8th grade scholars are excited about what Mathematics has to offer. They strive to do their best and love to work in collaborative groups to solve math problems or work on projects. My scholars motivate and support each other throughout the learning process. Each scholar works to meet their academic potential with support from myself and our 8th grade team of educators, as well as the administrators and their peers.
They are a diverse group comprised of different ethnic backgrounds, learning needs, and language barriers.
These scholars reside in a high poverty area and unfortunately, many of these children do not have a two parent household. Their reality is often a struggle to obtain nutrition and suitable clothing. As a result, having the tools for academic success take a backseat.
My school has been recognized as a high achieving school and we would like that to become a trend that evolves into an expectation of success. We want to ensure that our scholars are provided with the opportunities to learn and compete in such a competitive workforce and world.
My Project
In order to be successful and engaged in learning, students need basic supplies. My students often do not come prepared with what they need. Folders, paper and notebooks will help them stay organized and allow them to keep their notes all together in one place. Pencils, erasers, dry erase markers and highlighters are used daily to complete daily tasks and activities.
My students deserve to have what they need so that they can focus on learning!
Authentic student work is engaging for my students and takes their knowledge to another level when completing projects in Math and Social Studies. In order to complete the projects, they need glue, scissors, colored paper, sharpie markers, and poster board.
