Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a Special Day Class of 4th-6th grade with 16 students. These students come from very low income homes and are English Language Learners. My students mean the world to me and I want to create a safe comfortable place for them to enjoy learning. I care deeply about each and every one of them and feel that they can succeed even though learning can be difficult for most of them.
The students in my class often come to school hungry and with extra emotional weight on their shoulders so for me just making sure they know I care about them is important for me so I always try to be prepared for whatever they might need to be succesful.
Most of my students only get help with schoolwork at school since a lot of the parents of my students do not speak English. So having enough resources for my students is a key factor. My goal as a teacher is to help students not only learn but have a growth mindset in life that no matter how hard things get you just have to perserve and success will eventually come your way.
My Project
The students I teach are very creative learners and need access to basic school supplies to feel successful in learning. We use mini whiteboards daily especially during math lessons. Our whiteboards are so old and we are in desperate need of new ones for my students to solve math problems independently and feel successful.
Teaching at a low- income Title 1 school many of my students do not have the funds to purchase their own school supplies so our supplies run low after a few months of the school year.
This donations of school supplies will make a huge impact in our classrooms. It is not only benefitting the students but also making my life as a teacher a little easier not always stressing about needing to go purchase more materials out of my own pocket like I do every year.
