Our school is a Title One elementary school located in a socioeconomically disadvantaged area of the city. We have a diverse group with the largest student population being primarily African-American and a growing population of ELL, some of whom are just learning English. Over ninety percent of students receive free or reduced price lunch. We are an AVID school and want our students to become life-long learners and college bound. My students are amazing! They are young, fun and ready to learn.
The students in my classroom love to learn and have a thirst for knowledge and curiosity about the world.
In order to have a successful school year, I would like to purchase the following items such as desk name plates, protection sleeves for the name tags, lanyards and name badges, pencils, construction paper, ink for our printer, storage baskets, a ten drawer organizer and many other essential items to start the school year off.
With the small budgets and the large number of items that are always required to help students feel warm and inviting into the classroom, I usually pay for these items with my personal money.
Each year I have more and more ESL students. With that, I want my classroom to be bright, exciting and full of materials for students to use. A large number of ESL students come to school without supplies from home. By having supplies already in the classroom, it will lower their anxiety and hopefully, they will not be scared to enter the classroom.
