Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are very eager to learn and for the most part disciplined. Our school is located in the heart of the inner-city and service students from different multi-cultural backgrounds.

They are special because many face their own challenges to securing an education, but once they are here they are committed.

My students like variety, surprises, and the excitement element. Many times this is tied to resources. I don't want to disappointment them. This is one of the best group of students that I have ever taught.

My Project

These supplies will be used for classroom basics. As an English Language Arts and Reading teacher, I spend a good percentage of time making copies. I really can't keep up with the amount of money spent personally in buying paper. I hope to put a dent in my expenses for this semester. Students read and annotate a lot of informational text. That requires paper and pencils. Many of my students' parents are not really replenishing their school supplies right now. They usually purchase a lot for back to school. After Christmas, that responsibility generally falls on the teacher. I don't see it as a burden, but as a responsibility to the children that I serve.
