This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a small community in Northeast Alabama. 68% of students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch. Even though many of our students live at or below the poverty line, students and teachers at my school work hard to bridge the achievement gap. Students receive an education full of rigor and receive quality instruction from a vast array of trained professional educators. Our high school is committed to helping our students become successful global citizens in the 21st century.
My Project
Our classroom is in need of basic school supplies. My students come from low-income families and sometimes do not have the basic essentials of a classroom environment. Having access to these materials without regard to what class they are in is the goal of this project.
I want the students to know that they can come and get paper, pencils, index cards, or anything else they need from my classroom.
Some things do not have to be a big deal. If I have these things readily available, it will help me make the lives of some of my students much easier.
