Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students will be using these tools to write their drafts and improve their work using our current writing program "WriteSteps." As their writing pieces get edited and then published, they will be able to mount them on various colors of construction paper to be displayed in the classroom and school.
My classroom consists of 24 students who are eager to learn and are from diverse backgrounds.
They live in a rural area with low economic status. We are part of a kindergarten through fifth grade public school with approximately 700 students. Our school is currently designated by the State of California as a PI (Program Improvement). This means that we have not met our achievement goals in Language Arts or Mathematics for several years, so we need to work hard on basic academics. Writing is the pillar of support that my students need to achieve.
My Project
Students will be using these writing supplies such as lined paper, construction paper, erasers, sharpies, and the rest of the supplies to edit their rough drafts and enhance their pieces of writing. Our writing areas that we focus on will improve ideas, organization, word choice, voice, sentence fluency, and conventions.
As their writing improves, so will their reading growth and eagerness to write. Then, their work will be published on construction paper and multi-mediums for display. Utilizing these materials will have a significant impact on student motivation with writing.

Hopefully my students will become eager writers. Since it has been proven that writing helps increase reading ability, we should see tremendous growth in that area as well. I look forward to seeing how developing these writing skills will positively change their lives for the better.
