Help me give my students basic learning tools for the areas of math (How Long Is It? Measurement Center), STEM (House Building Engineering Center), and art (Learning Lacers).
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There are 15 beautiful and unique students in my pre-kindergarten classroom that range in ages of 3, 4, and 5 years old. They come from diverse backgrounds, with diverse levels of educational experiences and are multi-lingual.
Many of the students live in generational poverty and come to me with their own set of issues and bad experiences, but regardless I keep my expectations for them high while making their school experience a positive one.
Our school is situated in the most dangerous section of the fourth most dangerous city in America. However, 99.9% of them love coming to school every day, where they receive love and attention from their peers and teachers, breakfast, lunch, snack, and a quality education.
My Project
My students have individual strengths, needs, and interests and I have taken this into consideration when selecting and arranging materials in my classroom. Going from an empty room to a fully operational preschool classroom requires me to have a vision and a plan.
I want to ensure that each child has an opportunity to solve problems, to exchange ideas with peers, and to learn appropriate social behaviors.
Most activities are typically child
initiated (the child decides which center to work in, how long, what materials he/she will use and what the activity will be) while some planned activities require more of my involvement to
take advantage of teachable moments or develop interest among my students.
The way that I make use of the items requested will have a significant impact on the overall quality of the learning experience for my young students.
