Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I've worked in education for over 10 years and started with a new program this year. These students work harder and overcome more than any other students I have ever worked with due to their intense social emotional needs on top of their academic needs.
My students learn so much more than reading and math everyday.
They work hard to learn coping skills to help them regulate and always need fun motivational things to keep them going. On top of it, all of my students are learning that everything they can't do, is just something they can't do YET. These materials will be used to help students get their basic hygiene needs met, because it's hard to focus on your school work when your hair is tangled. There are basic school supplies such as dry erase markers to help students complete work when they don't have the materials to bring. Lastly, there are incentives for students to work for. There are small things like tattoos to put in the prize box, all the way up to dominos for students to work together with, as a motivator, all while sneaking in some social skills while they play together.
