Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing and resilient. Many are immigrants or from immigrant families. Many are affected by being homeless and neighborhood violence but come to school everyday ready to learn.
In a neighborhood where violence is an everyday part of life, school becomes so much more than just a place to learn.
The students in my classroom recognize the value of an education as a means to a positive future and hopefully, someday a safer community as well.
Our students are English Language Learners in an urban neighborhood. School is their safe haven and a place where they can focus on a positive future. They are eager to learn and take pride in the investment of others in their education.
My Project
My students are English language learners whose understanding of mathematical concepts relies heavily on visualization. As a result of this they often begin to fall behind in math. They really need these basic tools, in the form of math kits, to help them grasp the more difficult concepts of fifth grade math. These basic tools are difficult to obtain for every classroom, or student home. By having these supplies the students can utilize them at school and check them out for practice at home. These basic math supplies will make it possible for my students to have stellar math experience that they both need and deserve.
