Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a mix of diverse learners and general education students. As a school, we're trying to include as many students as possible in the general education environment while still providing instruction in a smaller settings. To achieve that, teachers and students are collaborating across environments.
Building responsibility and confidence makes a huge difference for my students.
We have rotations for math and reading to practice different skills and to build independence. It is difficult for my students at the beginning of the year, but by December, they can usually work for a full 30 minutes without teacher intervention during their independent work time.
Including my students as leaders in social emotion and gaming situations has allowed them to be leaders and depend on positive behaviors for attention.
My Project
This year will be the first year for rotating schedules for my students. I'll be working with 5th and 6th grade students in general education and special education settings. The extra pencils and sharpener are equally as important as the larger organizational tools. The copy paper will support all students within the grade band I teach, as well as any other generated work on-demand for other students who consult with me during the day.
These materials will directly support students from 4 homerooms, at up to 90 students per day.
The organizers will help keep my special education students organized and on a schedule, and also provide organizational support to general education students as needed.
