My Students

Over the past four-plus years, a grassroots movement has been stirring in the center of Kansas City, Missouri, to open a new, free charter school that offers something new: a school that provides an excellent public education focused on developing and demonstrating understanding while building connections within a diverse community. Our school was first piloted by five community members who wished to have better elementary education options for KC's children.

After research, The Community School Initiative wrote an RFP and rallied hundreds of families together to start our school on its founding journey, and here we are in year two: facing new challenges and obstacles with a larger student body and added grade level.

We are making a huge impact on the KC educational climate, but need help to provide our students with the resources to be their best.

It is a bit of a tumultuous time in education in our country with tighter budgets and state politics that can interfere with what is best for our kiddos. Knowing that it takes a village to raise a child, it takes many selfless strangers like yourself to support and sustain a great school - we are so grateful for you.

My Project

In the elementary classroom, glue sticks, pencils, paint and the like disappear quickly! We need to refresh our art supplies so we can have enough for more wonderful projects in our second semester of the school year. These tools not only serve the art room, but also serve teachers who borrow them regularly throughout our entire school. Art supplies allow students to learn about different types of skills such as detailing, patience, brainstorming, gross and fine motor skills as well as creativity, risk-taking and coping from stress!

We have had an absolutely wonderful first semester this year, and just need a refresh so we can continue creating artwork on a tight budget, unfortunately like most schools these days.

Thank you for supporting our kiddos! They get so excited for new materials and new ways to organize our room. This will be able to get us through another 6 months of happy, exploratory messes.
