Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 3-5 years old with developmental delays, language impairments, and other documented disabilities such as sensory processing disorder and autism. I serve an average of 12 students throughout the school year.
The students are all highly active classroom explorers.
They work so hard to learn routines, procedures, and actively participate in learning. They love praise, a smile, and a thumbs up for a job well done!
We are a Title I school which serves economically disadvantaged students from many backgrounds in a warm and welcoming environment. I love the way ALL children are accepted as they are.
My Project
These materials will make a big difference in the developmental level of my students. When my students first arrive in my classroom they are typically age three, with developmental delays, and many have never been in a school or daycare setting. I have the opportunity to introduce them for the first time to many educational materials.
The classroom materials I introduce my students to should be engaging and serve many learning and sensory purposes.
Often, my students surprise me in how quickly they learn to work and engage with the different materials in our classroom setting. Sometimes they require to hand over hand assistance for a short time but other times they just need some modeling and they begin to independently use the materials and before long they start to make developmental gains!
