Basic Classroom Supplies Needed To Nurture Collaboration

My students need supplies like glue sticks, poster paper, binder paper and a sharpener to keep them collaborating and working hard throughout the day.

My Students

I work in an inner city school made up of students who are often dappling in gangs, drugs, and worrying about where they're going to sleep at night.

Many of my kids come from foster homes, have survived traumatic experiences and are doing everything possible to make it through school in one piece.

These teenagers are up against a plethora of obstacles that most of us couldn't begin to imagine. However, in my class they learn the meaning of the word resilience. They learn to work hard in spite of their circumstances. They begin to hold on to the hope that they can in fact change their futures through higher education.

My Project

I'd by lying if I said teaching at a Title 1 school does not have it's challenges. Many of my students often walk into my classroom suffering from PTSD and have experienced a lifetime of letdowns, abuse and neglect.

Needless to say, my students find it difficult to focus in class with so much turmoil going on in their lives.

I am determined to start off each day meeting their basic emotional needs. Before we even begin learning about Scientific Methods, Mitosis, or Photosynthesis, we learn to value each other for our differences and work together as a team.

Your donation to this project would be giving myself and my students one less thing to worry about. We will be able to focus on building collaborative skills instead of scrambling to figure out how we will replace our glue sticks and binder paper. Your donation would put poster paper into the hands of my students so that they can get to work on showing what they know. It will give our classroom a much needed sharpener to prevent us from having to run and ask other teachers to use theirs. It will provide our donated Kindles a charging station to keep the battery from dying throughout the school day. Above all, your donation will show my students that people really do believe in them and want them to succeed. Thank you!
