My students come from low socioeconomic and diverse ethnic backgrounds. They are amazing and strive always to do their best.
Many of them are in situations where they are not supported at home academically or behaviorally.
In our classroom, my job is to provide a structured environment where students can safely achieve their highest academic and social levels. Our district did not prepare for the amount of students they would get, and I've recently been hired to teach half the class.
This project would reach all of the fourth and fifth graders in our school.
My Project
There are a few basic classroom set-up supplies in this project to help my students with thing they are unable to bring from home, such as pencils and markers and a few items to help me set up and organize my classroom for success.
In addition, many of these items will help my students meet the engineering standards for grade five.
We will be problem-solving and building and then rebuilding to meet challenges presented by me or by the students themselves. We will reuse any items that can be salvaged from project to project. One of the engineering project planned is to build a car which moves forward. Another activity requires students to build a tower with toothpicks an marshmallows. I am hoping to see them problem-solved based on trial and error, and these materials will help them do this.
