Basic Art Supplies for Creative Students Who Are Overcoming Barriers
Help me give my students basic supplies including magnetic sentence strips, dry erase sentence strips, watercolors, painting supplies, card-stock, storage for their projects to keep them organized.
At our school 95% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our students live in a unique part of town which is isolated from resources, parks, and after school activities. Many of our parents use public transportation, which makes access to outside resources challenging for them, such as literacy opportunities.
The particular students who will benefit from this project all qualify for special education services and have mild to moderate disabilities.
My students are really hard workers who put 100% towards their learning every day, even though learning is really challenging for them. They are resilient and inspiring.
My Project
My students have overcame so many learning barriers, thrive with creativity, and learn best by incorporating art into their learning. This project will provide my students the necessary materials to add a new creative twist to their project based learning with the use of fine art projects incorporated into their small book studies.
This project will provide my students with the supplies necessary to make interactive reading / writing notebooks with watercolor illustrations to show understanding of a specific literary skill, adding visuals to their vocabulary sections, and creating word banks with color coding, while collaboratively brainstorming their ideas with magnetic sentence strips.
This will allow students to practice their learning through many different modalities while still using strategies that support their academic progress.
While having super messy engaging learning like this, organization is the key which is why I am also requesting storage where students have a home for their interactive notebooks to dry and spill proof containers for the water while painting with watercolors.
