Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My baseball team is an exceptional group of young men and women; who need help raising money for equipment, uniform items, and meals during away games. We also need help raising money for field maintenance. Our school is a Title I school with a population that is over 70% Hispanic students. We are located in Oklahoma where the amount of money we receive from the state goes down year by year. We have exceptional players that need your help to reach their full potential on and off the field.
During the 1950s CH had one of the best baseball programs in the country and produced multiple major league baseball players during that time.
Now my school enrolls over 1500 students and 96% of those students receive free and reduced lunches and it has been long time since the school has had a winning record in baseball. What happened? Urban Sprawl with the interstate highway system that has left Historic inner city schools behind with ever dwindling budgets for academics and athletics. This project is just one way to help level the playing field and instill confidence in an awesome group of young men and women.
My Project
The goal of this project is to provide more baseballs, training aids, and equipment for our baseball team. We do not receive regular funds from our athletic department or school district to provide the necessary equipment for our team. Also, funding for public schools in Oklahoma has been cut by over $30 million over the past few years and a lot of schools can only provide basic financial support for a school.
