I currently teach music at a large 9th-12th grade high school in Alaska. We are a growing band program with many students involved in the band and jazz band classes as well as percussion and steel drum ensemble. Our school is one of the largest in the state with approximately 1650 students.
I am happy to serve these wonderful students in our area and take great pride in building their skills as musicians.
They are the reason I continue teaching music each day for the past 20 years. To see their eyes light up when they finally conquer that difficult passage in their music is a highlight of my day.
I am in the process of rebuilding this band program from the ground up. Many of my initial projects are aimed to replace dated or damaged classroom materials for student use.
Thank you so much for taking a peek into my classroom.
My Project
This project will purchase a much-needed bari saxophone mouthpiece and two ligatures for use by my jazz band saxophone section students.
These mouthpieces will help them have a more characteristic jazz sound, and the pitch and tone will also be better.
The current stock mouthpieces that the students are using (That came with the instrument) are just not appropriate for a jazz setting. This new mouthpiece will help their pitch, tone quality and style be more typical of a jazz saxophone player. Thank you so much for considering donating to my project and for supporting the success of my current and future students.
