This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My little ones are coming! Bright eyed and ready to learn they will enter a classroom ready to explore, but may not have the materials they need to start the year off right!
Many of the students that will enter my classroom live in one of the toughest neighborhoods in Washington, DC.
They attend a school that stretches meager resources to meet the needs of the students that attend, because many of their families just don't have the funds to purchase the supplies themselves. But despite this, students arrive eager to explore their classroom! They start out timid, but quickly make friends and adapt to their classmates and teachers. Learning starts from the moment they enter, and then soars from there!
My Project
My students need basic supplies such as pencils, glue, markers, and crayons to start the new school year. Last year, our Early Childhood classrooms began using a new curriculum, Tools of the Mind. I started off the year with a small gift card that allowed me to purchase just a few supplies in order to introduce the new activities to my students. Many of these supplies were used quickly, and I sadly spent the remainder of the year begging and borrowing so that the curriculum could be properly implemented, and my students could receive the education they deserve. Your contribution will not only provide my class with ample basic materials to use throughout the school year, but will also provide us with materials to create "All About Me" projects as the school year begins.
Remember, my students come in ready to explore and soak up knowledge!
