My students need books to learn about smart spending and saving, the Monopoly banking game, pretend money and bags, and incentives for our class economy store to promote financial literacy.
As a first year ELA/Social Studies teacher, it's my goal to provide my students with the necessary materials to enhance their academic abilities and facilitate their comprehension. I have a diverse group of students from military families that need a welcoming and supportive classroom environment. My students are faced with many challenging circumstances that pertain to military life including family separation, transitions, and other life changing events, which ultimately have an impact on students' academic performance.
My students love learning and flourish when given the opportunity to try new things.
I believe in providing them with a safe place to grow and giving them all the necessary resources to accomplish this!
My Project
My students will each get a money canvas bag to safely store the pretend money they will earn throughout the week. Students will learn through reading the financial books how to spend their money wisely and save for special classroom purchases. They will practice financial skills through playing the Monopoly Electronic Banking game.
Students will get to apply their saving and spending skills in our classroom store, which is the best real world learning experience for financial literacy.
The classroom incentives including the small toys and erasers will give students the opportunity to learn how to budget, save, and spend the money they earned towards buying these items.
