Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our 5th grade students all go to a Title I school that prides itself on making sure that all students know they can succeed. Even though the majority of the students are considered at-risk, we instill in them the belief that all students can accomplish their dreams with hard work and determination.
We also help them understand that obstacles are challenges they will conquer and overcome.
Our students are excited to learn, excited to understand, and excited to have fun!
My Project
Last year we implemented a new financial literacy program called Classroom Economy. Through My Classroom Economy, the students were able to learn valuable life skills in an experimental way. They were able to take part in real-world economic simulation, earn a paycheck, learn to budget their spending, and learn about the importance of saving money to buy what they want.
Being able to provide them with items to buy from our classroom store will help them understand the importance of saving and earning income.
We also have a small printer to print receipts for their shopping needs, so a scanner would help tremendously to make their shopping experience realistic.
