I am currently a sixth grade middle school ELA teacher in a high needs area. My students are English Language Learners and they would benefit from having bookshelves.
We are lucky enough to have a large selection of novels and reference books in our classroom but currently there isn't a proper place to store, display and organize them. Since my students are learning the English language it is a daunting task to search through bins to find a book of interest and on their reading level. Like many schools, my school has received drastic budget cuts and we will no longer be able to buy materials to benefit our kids.
Our current system of unorganized books takes a lot of time, energy, and causes lots of confusion. The bookcase would really help save space in the small, overcrowded classroom. This will make it easier for the children to find books on their favorite topics.
Searching through the bins and boxes is a challenge and it discourages the children from selecting books. Providing my students with these bookcases will allow me to sort the books properly by topic and reading level. Supplying my students with this material would be a small step but it would give my students one less obstacle to overcome on their own.
